Who is this class for?

The educator programm is organised as on-the-job training. It is offered as part of adult education, which enables adults to obtain a recognised diploma as a second qualification. The aim is to offer training geared towards the Luxembourg professional sector. The course is aimed at adults with no recognised professional qualification for the profession of educator, but who are already active in the educational or social field.

NEW: From the start of the 2025/2026 academic year, the work-study educator programme will also be offered in French.

Admission requirements

To be eligible for the educator work-study programme, candidates must :

  • be at least 21 years old on 1 September preceding the start of the school year
  • have 12 months’ experience (consecutive or non-consecutive) in the socio-educational sector
  • hold an employment contract in the educational and social sector for at least 16 hours a week (with the employment contract starting at the latest on 1 September prior to the start of the school year)
  • have been out of initial training for at least 12 months
  • have passed
    • either a 3e of classical secondary education,
    • or a 3e of general secondary education (former 11e),
    • or a DAP in the field of health and social professions (home health aid, helathcare assistant, socio-educational officer)
    • or a foreign diploma equivalent to those mentioned above with Luxembourgish recognition and sufficient language skills in French (B2), German (B2), English (B1) and Luxembourgish (B1)

Candidates who wish to be admitted to this course without having passed one of the above-mentioned classes must take part in two-day aptitude tests covering the core subjects of the 3e GPS class in the Health and Social Professions Division, as well as general knowledge in French, German and English.

Dates of the aptitude tests: Friday 6 June and Tuesday 10 June 2025.

To give those interested an idea of the requirements of the aptitude test, the German, English, French and biology tests from recent years are published here. For the French-speaking class, the biology test will be in French.

In addition, for admission to the 1SGEA class, applicants must :

  • be at least 21 years old on 1 September preceding the start of the school year
  • have 12 months’ experience (consecutive or non-consecutive) in the socio-educational sector
  • hold an employment contract in the educational and social sector for at least 16 hours a week (with the employment contract starting at the latest on 1 September prior to the start of the school year)
  • have been out of initial training for at least 12 months
  • have
    • a General Certificate of Secondary Education of the work-study educator programme;
    • a General Certificate of Secondary Education initial educator programme (formation initiale);
    • a Classical Certificate of Secondary Education in the social sciences section (1e SO)

What does this class consist of?

The work-study programme for educators includes, on the one hand, studies leading to the General Certificate of Secondary Education (2e GEA and 1e GEA), with a normal duration of two years of training, and, on the other hand, studies leading to the state diploma for educators (1SGEA – final year), with a normal duration of one year of training.

The course lasts 3 years and consists of :

In 2025/2026, 2GEA classes will attend classes at ENAD on Mondays and Tuesdays; 1GEA classes on Thursdays and Fridays and 1SGEA classes on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

This cycle lasts 4 semesters and consists of :

  • 16 hours of theoretical courses during school terms, on two consecutive days per week,
  • independent learning,
  • professional practice accompanied by pedagogical reflexivity.

Continuous assessment and final test for each module.

1SGEA final year (2 semesters)

The final class leading to the State Diploma in Education includes the three areas of study and the following eight modules:

1. General studies on education and society

  • Module 1: Health and well-being education
  • Module 2: Educational and social institutions: concepts, aims and key actors
  • Module 3: Contexts, current issues and challenges for the educator’s professional action

2. Specific studies in educational and social pedagogy and didactics

  • Module 4: Language, language and communication in educational work
  • Module 5: Teaching social, educational and cultural activities
  • Module 6: Professional approaches to psycho-educational support

3. Analysis and reflection on professional practice

  • Module 7: Professional dissertation in the form of an integrated project
  • Module 8: Reflection on professional practice
